Deviant Folk is the solo musical project of Boston-area musician Mark Abruzzese. Since recording 2021’s self-titled “Deviant Folk" Mark moved on from a 24-year career teaching high school chemistry - to open a school of music! But his truest passion is songwriting, and so here it is: “Lover #9” is a collection of songs from the last few years, produced by Mark himself and lovingly recorded and mixed by Elio Deluca at The Soul Shop in Medford, MA.
The first single “Reckless” releases May 2, 2025
“I don’t write songs, I find them lurking in the forest amongst the trees”

Deviant Folk
Mark Abruzzese
At the helm of “bluegrass folklore”, Deviant Folk’s Mark Abruzzese has taken the genre to depths unknown. A Boston-based Chemistry teacher by day, Abruzzese’s debut eponymous album Deviant Folk is a musical reflection of the humanity we face in our choices, and our views on what life is supposed to be rather than what it is — packaged into a mischievous mix of bluegrass and straight ahead folk.
